Winter 2025

Winter 2025

Our sailing season for 2024 is done, and Virginia is resting in a calm harbor at Strouts Point Wharf in South Freeport, Maine. She will soon be covered with a tarp. There is limited parking on the site, so it will be hard to visit Virginia this winter.

Before the transit to South Freeport, we took off all of the rigging which is now inside the Bath Freight Shed (except for three spars too large to fit inside). We now have an inventory of the rigging. This allowed us to complete almost all of the down-rigging in 2 work days. It also contains the list of work we need to do on the rigging over the winter.

We have some winter work on Virginia including making the bulkheads more watertight, a bit more electrical work, plumbing, and replacing fuel lines for the engine.

The current plan is to again go to Portland in April to lift Virginia. This will allow us to fix some problems found in Coast Guard inspections. We do not yet have dates for this. We hope to be back in Bath in mid-May and fully rigged by the end of May.

We have a limited number of events this winter. The Jane Stevens Visitor Center including our shop is open Saturday mornings during the Bath Farmers Market (9-noon).

On December 14, we are holding a book signing for the various authors who volunteer for Maine’s First Ship. Most of these books are available at our shop whenever we are open. See details on the Events page.
