Back from Boston (and Beyond)
From July 8 to July 22, Virginia took her longest trip yet, with a visit to Sail Boston 2026, She joined 50 ships from around the world, celebrating 250 years of America. On the return trip, Virginia made port visits to Plymouth and Newburyport.
Virginia left Bath on July 8, and arrived in Boston on July 10. There,Virginia docked at Pier 6 near the Charlestown Naval Yard after sailing the 8 mile couse of the Parade of Sail, only a few ships back from Constitution, which led the parade. We were open in Boston for 4 days, and had over 1500 visitors.
On July 16, Virginia sailed to Plymouth along with Mayflower II. These two reproductions honor early English colonies in New England, and both of the original ships were built in about 1607. Mayflower II does not get to sail often, so this was a good sail for both ships. On July 17, Virginia was open for visitor and we had about 700 visitors, including several groups of children from summer camps.
On July 18, Virginia sailed to Newburyport, arriving for the Parade of Sail on July 19. On July 20, Virginia was again open to a large crowd of visitors.
On July 21, Virginia returned to Bath. Along the way, she met up with Pride of Baltimore. Overnight, Virginia sailed thru a storm in the Gulf of Maine.
For the rest of July and August, Virginia will be in Bath and going out for our normal 2-hour sails on Wednesday and Friday. The Jane Stevens Visitor Center is open from 10am-3pm on Thurday, Friday, and Saturday, and you can come on board Virginia. Visit the Sailing page to purchase tickets.
