Whit Perry: Plimoth Patuxet Museums
Director of Maritime Preservation and Operations, and Captain of the Mayflower II

Mayflower II

Captain Perry will tell us about the history of Mayflower II, a reproduction of the iconic vessel that carried the Pilgrims to Massachusetts, and give us a behind-the-scenes look at its restoration at Mystic Seaport, between 2016 and 2019.

This is the first lecture of eight in the 2026 Summer Lecture Series. The lectures will be held on Wednesday evenings at the Bath Freight Shed (27 Commercial St, Bath Maine). The recording will be available below and on YouTube shortly after the lecture.

The lectures are free, but if you consider them valuable, please donate to Maine’s First Ship in person or online.

Whit Perry

Whit Perry is responsible for all aspects of Plimoth Patuxet Museum’s maritime program.  His passion for boats began in his childhood, at his family’s summer home on Squam Lake, in New Hampshire.  He has a long history with ships and sailing, having owned his own boat shop and journeyed all over the North Atlantic, the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean.  He has sailed a wide variety of vessels, from small catboats to square riggers, schooners, and sloops.  Whit spent 10 years at the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, where he maintained and operated three 17th‑century square‑rigged vessels.  His expertise in wooden boat preservation and their operations has been instrumental in restoring a variety of historic ships for public and educational purposes.
