Virginia Inboard Profile
The Inline Profile shows Virginia in two planes. On the top are four transverse (showing breadth and depth) at various frames along the ship. This shows the camber of the deck and the design of the hatches.
On the bottom is a side view (showing length and depth) which is commonly called a sheer plan. This shows details of the lines and construction of the bow and stern.
The Virginia of this working design is both wider and a little longer than the historical models. This was necessary to meet the USCG requirements for passenger safety, and to provide extra space for modern equipment not required in the 17th century. The depth has stayed consistent at 6.4 feet.
Somewhat dirty copies of these design documents are out in the boatshed and consulted during the construction.
