Chinese Hot Pot

We are bringing back the Full Moon Dinners at the Bath Freight Shed after two years of global pandemic. These dinners featuring farm-to-table dining began in 2013. They are a fund raiser for Maine’s First Ship, but also a chance for you to meet old friends and make new friends, while overlooking Maine’s First Ship Virginia as the moon rises over her on the Kennebec River.

Join us on Saturday September 10 to celebrate the harvest full moon with a dinner of food from local farmers cooked at your table. The chefs are Chris Toy amd Jeff Mao, but you get to do the cooking yourself in a Chinese Hot Pot. Chris Toy and his friend Jeff Mao will prepare broth and dipping sauces and an array of fresh local ingedients to cook.

The meal can be vegetarian by cooking in vegetable soup base and only cooking vegetables. However, since the hot pots are shared, we would like to know in advance who will want to eat vegetarian. Please send a note to admin@mfship.org .

The drinks are BYOB (bring your own bottle). We will provide water and some soda, but you need to bring your own beer and wine.

Chris Toy is a lifelong educator, Registered Maine Guide, and bestselling cookbook author. He has held classes at Stonewall Kitchen, Now You’re Cooking, and several adult education programs. His books highlight Chinese cuisine and stir-fry techniques.

Jeff Mao has cooked Chinese food with his family since he was a child. He is an educator and among other things teaches cooking online and has published a cookbook on Chinese Hot Pot.

Kat Logan, a singer-songwriter and multi-instumentalist, will provide the music for the dinner. Her music follows Folk, Americana, Blues, and Celtic traditions.
